Abstract:
Rehmanniae Radix RR, derived from the roots or tubers of the plant Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch, is a traditional Chinese herb renowned for its multifaceted effects, such as analgesic action, sedation, anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidant capacity, anticancer activity, immunomodulatory function, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular regulation, and neural injury repr. Widely utilized in clinical practice due to its versatility and efficacy, RR has recently attracted extensive scientific attention from researchers seeking to uncover its active components and pharmacological effects.
Recently, investigations into the chemical composition of RR have revealed a rich array of molecules including iridoid glycosides e.g., catalpol, aucuboside, phenylpropanoid glycosides like acteoside, various sugars, and unsaturated fatty acids. Notably, the patent medicines and Chinese herbal decoctions contning RR, exemplified by the Six Medicinal Herbs Pill which includes Rehmannia root, Lily Bulb, and Rehmannia Decoction, as well as Siwu Decoction, have also become central subjects of study for traditional Chinese medicine practitioners.
This review synthesizes contemporary literature on RR to encapsulate its chemical constituents, pharmacological implications, and clinical uses. It critically evaluates the current advancements and limitations in research eavors med at unlocking the full potential of this ancient remedy through rigorous scientific investigation.
Introduction:
Rehmanniae Radix, a traditional Chinese herbal treasure derived from Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch, has been revered for centuries due to its diverse therapeutic properties such as analgesic efficacy, sedative effects, anti-inflammatory actions, antioxidant strength, antitumor activity, immunoregulatory capabilities, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular modulation, and neural repr capacity.
